I bet you didn’t know this about Outdoor Adventure!

I bet you didn’t know this about Outdoor Adventure!

Summer camp is a time for children to disconnect from technology, connect with nature, and learn important life skills. One of the best ways for kids to do this is through outdoor adventure programs(nature, rockwall, etc.), which can help them become more appreciative, understanding, compassionate, and resilient.

At JORI, a child’s experience with nature is an opportunity for them to learn about themselves. No matter if it is learning to appreciate the beauty of nature or cheering on a friend as they climb the rockwall for the first time. Our outdoor adventure program is designed to help our campers to grow.

This post will explore how JORI’s outdoor adventure program helps children to grow into a better and more well-rounded version of themselves by teaching them key 21st-century skills.

Compassion for others:

Outdoor adventures can be physically and emotionally challenging, requiring teamwork and support from others. Children can learn to develop compassion for their fellow campers as they work together to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. They learn to empathize with others and offer support and encouragement when needed.

If you were spending the day around our OA program. You would see a camper climbing the rockwall. A certified, attentive, and patient staff member would coach them every step of the way while their cabin mates cheered them on.

It is truly a sight to see no matter if the child reaches the top or makes it onto the first rock, our value of TaCEO (Taking Care Of Each Other) lives true. Our campers learn to be compassionate by supporting each other regardless of how a camper chooses to overcome challenges.

Resilience & Grit:

OA can also be tricky and unpredictable, requiring children to push through physical and mental barriers. However, by overcoming challenges such as steep climbs or unpredictable weather, children can develop resilience and grit – the ability to persevere through difficult times and bounce back from setbacks.

Our program aims to push our campers to overcome individual and group challenges. They experience everything from conquering our climbing wall and ropes course to learning to navigate with a map or build a fire.

All this may seem daunting, but we teach our campers to identify and appreciate their progress at JORI. It is that focus on the journey that we know our campers love the most.

Appreciation:

Spending time in nature can help children develop a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the natural world. Our OA programs can provide opportunities for children to explore the beauty and complexity of the natural world, fostering a deeper appreciation and connection to the environment. They can learn to respect and care for the environment and develop a responsibility to protect it for future generations.

Understanding:

Our OA program can provide opportunities for children to learn about different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. They may participate in activities such as hiking, camping, or rock climbing with campers from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to learn about and appreciate the differences in others. They may also learn about the history and culture of the area they are exploring or the natural beauty of the land of Israel, which can broaden their understanding and appreciation of the world around them.

JORI’s outdoor adventure program provides children with unique opportunities to develop important qualities such as appreciation, understanding, compassion, resilience, and grit. If you’re considering sending your child to a summer camp with an outdoor adventure program, then consider the benefits our program can have for your child.

Of course, we don’t promise they will be champion climbers or be able to survive on naked and afraid. But they will walk out of it with a better understanding of who they are and what they’re capable of.
